Before we continue with his discipline, let us take a closer look at what is going on. We have already discussed discipline, as pack animals understand it, on a basic level. Let us now get a little more specific with regards to the puppy that acts aggressively towards the pack leader.

Once again, what would Mom do? It should be an accepted fact that Mom knows how to raise her litter. It is also a fact that she will not tolerate aggression aimed toward herself by any of her puppies, nor will the pack leader in any pack anywhere. Domesticated or wild, the pack is held together by the observance of a well developed social hierarchy. The Boss won’t tolerate outright aggression, plain and simple.

If you desire, find a breeder with a litter of puppies, ideally six weeks of age or older, and study them. Your study is quite simple. Observe. What you are looking for is an act of aggression toward Mom. You are not looking for rowdy playfulness but outright acts of aggression. It usually happens when a puppy is doing something he wants to do, such as chewing on Mom’s tail, and she lets him know that he is acting inappropriately.
